Great but lazy week off..

Eid
Had a wonderful Eid holiday. Did absolutely nothing really, except for unpack our shipping. The house looks lovely now - we are so pleased with how it's all come together - our walls are filled with photos and pictures and our carpets look great, the kids adore their play room and yes, we are in love with our bar. Many of our friends were off to Bali or Cambodia etc so it was quiet but nice.




We did lots of shopping, swam almost everyday in our 'backyard' pool and only really ventured out to the South of Jakarta on one day - oh, how we wished we hadn't. We decided to go to the zoo - it took us only 25 mins to get down to the south which is amazing (normally, anywhere from 1.5 hours to 3) but it being Eid meant that everyone had left the city....oh so we thought. They must have ALL decided to go to the zoo the day we did. It was PACKED, and I mean PACKED! I have never been in such a crowded place, and that's saying something coming from Taipei. You could not move, there were people and rubbish everywhere and we, in three hours, managed to see 2 gorillas, half a dozen little monkeys and a lake of pelicans. All the other animals were obviously hiding - wouldn't you with thousands of people clamouring round?!!! And it was HOT! Yuck. The girls were so good though, even though it was a dismal trip - we bought them ice creams and a soft doll thing each and they were happy enough!!



Partying Down

Thursday night we went over to our friends, Ernesto & Elisa who have Katerina (Annalise's new friend) and Alex (8 months). That was a lovely night. The girls are so happy having friends to play with. Friday night we had some friends come over to christen the bar (any excuse!) - it was a great night, lots of booze drunk, I cooked up a vat of chilli and so we chomped on that followed by chocolate cheesecake! Back to school yesterday - could have done with another week off, but don't you always feel like that?!

The Girls

The girls are good - our next door neighbour's little girl is going through a biting, scratching, pinching phase and Annalise has a few nasty-looking wounds from her, but poor little Juliette seems to be getting the worst of the attacks - Tyla just hurts Juliette for no reason, poor lamb. Juliette has a lovely 5 finger scratch across her cheek and nose from yesterday - I turned my back for a few seconds and eeeek! She's fine though. It looks worse than it is. That terrible-twos time is pretty yucky! I don't think Annalise was so bad in that respect - but she made/makes up for it in her tanties!



Annalise is going through a very 'stubborn' phase - she's very very loving at the moment, but also is doing her damnest to see how far she can go. The time-out seat has been warm rather a lot the past few days. At times she has just driven me crazy!!!



Tim Toms

A funny thing happened last night. Annalise was complaining that she had a very sore bottom. I put a cold flannel on it, and then a wet tissue, then some ice, but it was still sore she said. She wouldn't tell me why it was sore at first - but then she tells me that earlier that day, her and Tyla had been playing in our bedroom and had gone into my 'timtom' drawer.
"Timtom, drawer? What's that?" I asked.
"Your timtoms - for your bleeding".
Ahhh! My tampon drawer. And yes, you guessed. She said she was showing Tyla what big girls do to stop the bleeding, and she'd tried to put one up her bum!!!
I had to try really hard not to guffaw with laughter, but also felt really sorry as that must have been PAINFUL! Her bum is fine today, but ohhhhhh! You don't read these things in the child-rearing books - make sure all medicines, cleaning fluids etc are kept out of reach. Where in the manual did it say tampons?!!!!
