Grandad Leaves then we all go to Bali!

Wow - crazy few days! Daddy left on Wednesday night. We had a lovely last few days with him. Not doing very much really as we were at work and pretty stuffed, but we had a great night out at out favourite 'Sushi Groove' followed by Barrels to watch the bands and have a few beers.

It was sooooooooo hot and humid the last few days Daddy was here - as you'll see from the photos, we are covered in sweat - that was nice!

The day after Daddy left, was a mad rush for getting ready for the trip to Bali. I had to go with the school kids at 9am on Friday morning - all 52 of them! Eeeek! And Andrew was following after school on a later flights with the girls. I really don't enjoy the thought of being away from them when they're flying.

I am such a worry wart - if a plane crashes with my girls on it, I want to be on it too. It's the same in cars. If I can be, I'll be with them.

Very gloomy thoughts. But it's my reality. I hate it.

I worried the whole time until I knew they were with us.

Even though they were 4 hours late!

Bloody Air Asia!

We arrived at the right time, although getting 50 kids and parents bags through check in (which took us a very enjoyable (not) 2 hours of queues and waiting around and trying to keep the kids amused as they were incredibly bored!

After that, we had no time to do anything at the airport as we were straight onto the very small and very crowded plane. We all got settled and then the airplane staff realised they'd seated all the kids on the emergency door seats. Of which there were 18 seats (6 rows of three) occupied by us. That meant that we had to shift around rather a lot as there were only 6 members of staff, and only adults over 16 were allowed on these seats and rows and so we had to beg adults from the back of the plane who were very nicely settled to swap places with the kids so that the plane could take off.

Thank god the flight was only 1 hour and a half!

We arrived and after much more waiting at the other end for all our bags and getting on the buses, we arrived at our very beautiful hotel. It was really lovely. A 4* gorgeous place in Sanur. (Whoever heard of school kids staying in 4* accommodation on a school trip? Our kids, apparently!)

You didn't hear us complaining though!
Anyway, to cut a long, fun weekend short, Andrew and the girls arrived about midnight that night (they were only 4 hours late!) and then they had a lie in the next day whilst I took our 15 kids to the X country Running competition in Nusa Dua at 7am.

Nusa Dua was Beeeautiful but the run was hellish. In fact, you couldn't really call it a run as many of the kids (and I) ended up walking our way through it as the terrain was so tough. They were beach runs, 3km and 5km but the sand was sooooo soft that you sunk down to your ankles with each step and then as you pulled your foot out of the sand, you'd lost your momentum of running. It was tough. And running at 9am in the morning with the hot 35 degrees sun feeling like extra tonne weights on your back, was just not fun.

I have to say it was not an enjoyable morning at all - and the hosts, Bali International school were quite unorganised and forgot to bring water for the kids so we resorted to finding a beach seller to buy drinks from for the very exhausted and thirsty kids. The course was not well thought out at all, and seeing as all the runners bar their own school , had never trained on sand, it was tough. Have I said that already? Well, here it comes again! It was tough!

Our kids ended up taking their trainers and socks off, holding them in their hands and running and then when they got to rocky and broken shell parts of the beach, had to put the trainers back on as they started to cut their feet.

Anyway. After that, we had a nice rest of the weekend, swimming at the hotels' two pool (one with a 100m slide!) and shopping and going for walks on the beach.

The night times were pretty good, although my Grade 5's got up to mischief on the first night which involved me and another teacher searching for two boys for 45 minutes (they were hiding under the beds in another groups' room - the rascals!) so got an earful from us and and an earlier curfew the second night!

We took 50 kids from Grade 1 to Grade 9. It could have been a nightmare, but it was a very successful trip, although how much nicer would our time have been in Bali, if we hadn't had the school kids?!!!

Annalise & Juliette had a whale of a time - the school kids loved taking care iof them and there were also lots of little kids around for them to play with. It would ahve been great if we could have had a few more days there. Isn't that always the way!
