Happy Valentines and Gong Xi Fa Cai!

Woo hoo!
Happy Valentines - I hope all of you are having a lovely Valentines. Andrew is taking me out tonight....that'll be nice. We very rarely spend any time just the two of us anymore. We keep on saying we need to make a regular thing of it but life just seems to get in the way.
And Gong Xi Fa Cai!
We had fireworks going off like crazy last night - Annalise is convinced that people are celebrating her birthday all over Jakarta! We have one very excited little soon-to-be 5 year old in the house at the moment. Juliette is equally excited as she can't wait to give Annalise the present tomorrow that she picked out by herself (a very large stuffed 'Sponge Bob Square Pants' - a current favourite of mademoiselle Annalise at the moment!) Juliette keeps running into the cupboard and stroking it and then putting her finger to her klips and saying "ssshhhhh! It's a secret!"
Very cute.

We went out to a Middle Eastern restaurant last night down in the South - to meet up with an old friend from Taipei. He is working in a school right down in the south as an IB coordinator.

The food was great - it was at The Meridien hotel and it was a special buffet dinner with belly dancers! The dancing kept the girls happy and the food was beautiful. Anne-marie, they even had Omali! I thought of you as I saw it in a big vat on the dessert table. And it was very yummy!

For those of you who don't know what Omali is, it's a creamy Arabian dessert that contains Filo dough or puff pastry, milk and nuts.

Here is a recipe I got off the internet!

I might have to try making it. The girls even liked it!

Ingredients
1 (17.5 ounce) package frozen puff pastry sheets, thawed
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1 cup chopped pecans
1 cup chopped hazelnuts
1 cup raisins
1 cup flaked coconut
1 1/4 cups white sugar, divided
4 cups milk
1/2 cup heavy cream
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Butter a 9x13 inch baking dish.
Place the pastry sheets in the baking dish and place the dish in the oven. Watch it closely. When the top layer turns crunchy and golden, remove it from the oven. Continue until all the sheets are cooked.
Preheat the oven broiler.
In a bowl, combine walnuts, pecans, hazelnuts, raisins, coconut and 1/4 cup sugar. Break cooked pastry into pieces and stir into nut mixture. Spread mixture evenly in 9x13 inch dish.
Bring milk and 1/2 cup sugar to a boil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Pour over nut mixture.
Beat the heavy cream with the remaining 1/2 cup sugar until stiff peaks form. Spread evenly over nut mixture in dish.
Place dessert under oven broiler until top is golden brown, about 10 minutes. Serve hot.

Tadaaaaa! Easy!
The belly dancer was quite beautiful. If only my tummy looked like that!
